Biography

Over 20 years’ experience in social science research on climate adaptation (past-to-present drivers of vulnerability, risk of maladaptation, potential effectiveness of adaptation-related options, design of adaptation pathways). Expertise based on fieldworks (especially in coastal areas in small islands in the Pacific and Indian oceans) and involvement in international scientific processes (IPCC author, Scientific Committee of the World Adaptation Science Programme, lead of the framing chapter of the UNEP Adaptation Gap Report). Methodological expertise in Structured Expert Judgment approaches.

Vili has conducted research and published widely in the field of risk resilience in agriculture, food security, climate change loss and damage, and evaluation of adaptations and risk reduction actions in Pacific Island Countries.
