Biography

Over 20 years’ experience in social science research on climate adaptation (past-to-present drivers of vulnerability, risk of maladaptation, potential effectiveness of adaptation-related options, design of adaptation pathways). Expertise based on fieldworks (especially in coastal areas in small islands in the Pacific and Indian oceans) and involvement in international scientific processes (IPCC author, Scientific Committee of the World Adaptation Science Programme, lead of the framing chapter of the UNEP Adaptation Gap Report). Methodological expertise in Structured Expert Judgment approaches.

Biography

Dr Andrew Swales is a Principal Scientist in NIWA’s Coastal and Estuarine Physical Processes Group. His research focuses on sedimentary processes, coastal-wetland evolution and resilience to sea level rise, and sediment-source tracing for integrated catchment-estuary management. Andrew also leads the coastal wetland strand of the Future Coasts Aotearoa research programme.

Biography

Dr Sareh Moosavi is a lecturer in Environmental Planning and Design at the University of Melbourne. Her research and teaching activities focus on innovative landscape-led and nature-based approaches for climate responsive circular cities. Associate Professor Cathy Oke is the Director of Melbourne Centre for Cities, and Associate Professor / Melbourne Enterprise Principal Fellow in Informed Cities in the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning. Cathy's interests focus on research, policy and practice boundary spanning for increased nature and climate action in cities. She is Senior Advisor to the Innovate4Cities program of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.
