Dr Mawera Karetai (Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe, Waitaha) is a qualitative social scientist, researching and teaching in climate change, Indigenous research methodology, contemporary issues, and ethics. Mawera is researcher, lecturer and ethics advisor in the Department of Management at the University of Otago.

Professor Huhana Smith is a visual artist, curator, co and principal investigator in major environmental projects with her iwi and hapū. She has led collaborative, interdisciplinary, kaupapa Māori and action orientated research, which investigate freshwater decline into the marine and address climate change concerns for coastal Horowhenua to Kāpiti regions.

Gianna founded and directs the Ocean Media Institute and is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Otago.
